The USA on Wednesday reiterated its name on the Azerbaijani authorities to “instantly launch all people who’re unjustly detained and to respect the human rights and elementary freedoms of all,” because the State Division Spokesperson put it, when reacting to the arrest of yet one more distinguished civil society member in Azerbaijan, TURAN’s Washington correspondent stories.
Farid Mehralizade, a distinguished financial commentator and journalist, was detained late final week as a part of the federal government’s ongoing crackdown on AbzasMedia. Each Mehralizade and the information outlet deny having any ties.

Based on the Committee to Defend Journalists, a New York-based watchdog, Azerbaijan in latest months mounted a renewed assault on impartial media by detaining a minimum of a dozen journalists from shops AbzasMedia, Kanal 13, and Toplum TV; particularly Ulvi Hasanli, Sevinj Vagifgizi, Mahammad Kekalov, Hafiz Babali, Elnara Gasimova, Nargiz Absalamova, Aziz Orujov, Shamo Eminov, Alasgar Mammadli, and Mushfig Jabbar, and others, constituting a crackdown on journalists that was partly retaliation for his or her reporting on official corruption.
